Pictures For Elmhurst
In response to the tragic Covid-19 pandemic, and inspired by a massively successful fundraiser for the Pope John XXIII Hospital in Bergamo, Italy, we rallied our creative communities in support of Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, New York.
Pictures For Elmhurst was a print sale of work by New York-based photographers, expanding to 187 photographers from around the world, that ran from April 10-20, 2020 and raised $1.38 million. All proceeds went to Elmhurst Hospital Center to fight the Covid-19 emergency.
October 25, 2023, Pictures For Elmhurst reopens the fundraiser with 21 prints to coincide with the Elmhurst Hospital Auxiliary 2023 Benefit Gala in celebration of Elmhurst’s 190th year of caring for New York City. The sale is open exclusively to gala guests.
About the Prints
All images are printed on the same size paper, 12 x 10″, with at least a 1.5″ border on all sides. This means that the printed area is 7 x 9″ or smaller. The actual printed area varies for each image depending on aspect ratio. Prints are available in a non-numbered open edition and are unsigned.
All prints are made on Canson Infinity Platine Fibre Rag. This is a premium 100% cotton paper that complies with the ISO 9706 standard for maximum longevity. Prints are made from digital files using archival inkjet printing—the current industry standard for photographic printing. Printing services for this fundraiser are being provided by Paper & Ink Studio.
A flat shipping rate of $20 is charged for domestic orders and $40 for international. For each additional print ordered, an additional shipping charge is applied: $1.00 is charged for domestic and $2.00 for international.
Prints are available for $150 plus shipping costs. An amount of $21 will be deducted from the sale amount for printing production and packaging. Participating artists are provided with 20% of their print’s net proceeds to keep or donate to the hospital. A volunteer-based initiative, net proceeds will be donated to Elmhurst Hospital Auxiliary.
Shipping is not available to the U.K. nor to P.O. boxes.
Terms & Conditions
We are thrilled to be offering affordable art in support of Elmhurst Hospital Center. But it is also our duty to protect our artists’ interests. By purchasing this artwork, you agree to do so under the following conditions:
(1) You must not display the artwork in a museum, gallery, exhibition, or otherwise public nature, without the express written consent of the artist.
(2) You must not resell the artwork without the express consent of the artist.
(3) You are a human making an individual purchase, and not a bot designed to make rapid purchases.
(4) You agree to not make any further copies of the image after its purchase.
All sales are final. Because all net proceeds are being donated to Elmhurst Hospital Auxiliary, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization (EIN 11-1879800), refunds will not be possible.
This is not a typical ecommerce store. Every effort will be made to fulfill orders as quickly as possible, but depending on the number of orders we receive some may take several weeks or longer to arrive. For the October 25, 2023 print fundraiser, we expect all ordered prints to ship by the end of November 2023. In the event of an extended order fulfillment time, we will provide regular updates about fulfillment status.

Background
“Elmhurst Hospital Center opened in 1832 and moved to its current Queens location in 1957, making it one of the oldest hospitals in New York City.
In the neighborhood it serves, Elmhurst, more than two-thirds of residents were born outside of the United States, the highest such rate in the city. It is a safety-net hospital, serving mainly low-income patients, including many who lack primary care doctors.
Queens accounts for 32 percent of New York City’s confirmed coronavirus cases, more than any other borough and far more than its share of the city’s population. It also has fewer hospitals. Elmhurst is one of three major hospitals serving a large population and is centrally located, which in part explains why it is busy in normal times and even busier now.”
— The New York Times, March 25, 2020
”New York is the center of the Covid-19 pandemic in the United States, and Elmhurst hospital in the New York City borough of Queens is the center of the center.”
— The Guardian, March 27, 2020
”Elmhurst hospital is at the center of responding to this crisis. It’s the number one priority of our public hospital system right now.”
— NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, March 25, 2020
Elmhurst Hospital was overwhelmed by Covid-19 patients in the spring of 2020, 95% of their operations fully dedicated to the care of those suffering from the novel virus.
